Third Cohort Departs for New York: Anzai Tsuyoshi and Komiya Lisa Marina

As part of WAN: Art & Tech Creators Global Network’s international residency program, Third cohort creators Anzai Tsuyoshi and Komiya Lisa Marina will begin their residencies in New York.

Anzai will spend approximately one and a half months in New York, from early September to late October, conducting research on microplastics around the Hudson River and New York Harbor. Through engagement with research institutions, laboratories, and art spaces, he will explore how plastic fragments that are too small that they often escape notice are observed, analyzed, discussed, and potentially transformed into art. He will also be based at a local residency institution, where he plans to connect with researchers, curators, and artists and further develop his research through these exchanges

Komiya will undertake an approximately one-and-a-half-month residency in New York, from late September to mid-November,conducting research across bio-art laboratories and facilities, as well as practices at the intersection of queer communities and ecology. Through diverse forms of research and dialogue, they will critically examine the relationship between society and biotechnology, exploring how art can function as a form of resistance, particularly for queer and minority communities. They also plan to organize a screening of their video works during their stay and are developing plans to present and share their research through an open studio.
