Second Cohort Departs for New York

As part of an international residency program under the Phase 2 of “WAN: Art & Tech Creators Global Network”, Shin Hanagata, Goki Muramoto, Yoshida Yamar, and Chiku Komiya will begin their residencies in New York.

Hanagata will stay in New York for approximately one and a half months, from mid-May to late June.During the residency, Hanagata plans to visit various locations throughout New York with still human, a device that transplants the position of the eyes, inviting participants to wear and experience it on site. He also plans to present a performance developed through a residency at a local arts institution.

Muramoto will stay in New York for approximately two months, from mid-May to mid-July.During the residency, Muramoto is scheduled to present a solo exhibition at a gallery in New York City featuring Imagraph, an optical device that projects moving images onto closed eyelids. Through this exhibition, Muramoto aims to build connections within the local art community.

Yoshida will stay in New York for approximately one and a half months, from mid-May to late June.Through exchanges with local artists centered around self-published books and other works, he aims to develop relationships that will lead to sustained collaborations between Japan and New York beyond the residency period.

Komiya will stay in New York from late May through late July, presenting works and leading activities at the historic media arts center Harvestworks in SoHo. He will also conduct research into minority language communities and related research institutions.

The four creators are also scheduled to participate in “DEMO 2026”, a festival organized by NEW INC, in early June.
