Project ThemeResearch, presentation, and production of new work on the instability of voices and songs emerging in a multilingual city
Chiku Komiya will conduct research on multilingualism and endangered languages in New York through visits to institutions and fieldwork, seeking clues for a new project on how songs arise within multilingual environments.
He is also planning presentations and outdoor performances related to his ongoing art project, KOE Language Song Project, which centers on songs in a self-constructed language and has been developed since 2024.
In addition, he will hold a duo exhibition, “The Cave of Tongues”, with New York-based artist Nana Shimomura. In this exhibition, they will bring together linguistic media such as voice and writing, creating a space of linguistic instability within the city of New York.
Profile
Media artist and composer.
He explores new musical forms by destabilising conventional relationships between voice, language, and musical notation within contemporary media environments, focusing on voice as shaped by multilingual conditions and synthetic technologies.
Working with songs in a self-developed synthetic language, looping relationships between artificial and human voices, and generative forms of notation, he develops works across a wide range of formats, from score-based compositions to media performances and installations.
