Stay Period

Project ThemePerformance, Device Experiment and Local Research on "Twisting" Humanity

In New York, I will research institutions and art spaces in the field of human engineering, prosthetics and posthumanism, and observe how my practice — which seeks to deviate the body from the man-machine system — is received in the global center of the capitalism. During the stay, I will visit artists, researchers, and curators across NYC with my device “still human” which transplants the position of eyes to another part of the body, and have them wear it on site. I will also stage the international version of my new performance work “Ergonomic Embryo” that depicts the liminal body that does not “use” the technology, but “become” it, through physical practice and image-generation AI.

Profile

Born in Tokyo in 1995. Working across performance, media art, and contemporary art.
Amid a technologically accelerated capitalist society in which the realities of being “myself” and of being “human” are increasingly destabilized, they focus on technologies that mediate the relationship between body and world—such as communication systems, wearable devices, and prosthetic and orthotic apparatuses—seeking to explore a Torsion of Humanity.
