Project ThemeResearch on Bioart Practices from a Queer Perspective
This research investigates bioart laboratories and spaces in New York where queer communities and ecological practices intersect.
Through this field research, it examines how artists and researchers respond to the relationships between social systems and biotechnology, as well as how they address the future of climate crisis, ecosystems, and reproductive technologies—issues deeply entangled with capitalism and politics.
By engaging in multifaceted research and dialogues to critically examine the relationship between society and biotechnology, the project explores how art can function as a form of resistance, particularly for queer and marginalized communities.
Profile
Komiya's focus is to explore new methods of reproduction through queer perspective with various mediums such as biotechnology, performance, video works and Manga(Japanese cartoon) and more. They are also a host of a queer artists platform, "FAQ?" and Collective "Reproductive Garden Project". Previously published works include On Their Frontlines, Vol.1&2.
