Project ThemeExploring the Potential of Artistic Practice in Public Space Based on the Observation of Urban Structure
Recently, based in the Tokyo metropolitan area, Fujikura has traveled to cities including Kyoto, Xi'an, Singapore, and Bangkok to conduct extensive research and produce works centered on grid-based urban planning—a method utilized globally since ancient times—as well as recent urban developments and infrastructure shaped by the specific needs of each city.In New York, she intends to observe both the historically preserved grid-patterned cityscapes and the frontiers of recent urban development to further evolve her practice. She views this residency at WAN as a vital opportunity to explore her own methods of intervention within public space and to define the future direction of her practice.Last year, she participated in the Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition as a project member. Realizing the importance of presenting her work on an international stage, she aims to expand her opportunities abroad and deepen her connections with the global art community.
Profile
Focusing on the spatial depth of landscapes that extend along the periphery of urban and suburban infrastructure, this practice centers on 3DCG simulation to construct "works as apparatuses" involving tactile textures and temporal transformation. In physical and public spaces where video and matter intersect, the work examines the potential of provisional objects.
