
First Cohort Departs for New York: Miyuki Tanaka & Ryuta Aoki
WAN: Art & Tech Creators Global Network is officially sending the first two of the four creators selected for its 2025 international program to New York. Miyuki Tanaka and Ryuta Aoki will be the first to travel and begin their respective residencies in the city under this program.
Tanaka will spend approximately one month in New York, from late September to the end of October, working under the theme "Exploring Technology That Avoids Falling into Ableism." During her stay, she will give a presentation at NEW INC and conduct interviews with artists and researchers active in media art and design, aiming to gather diverse perspectives on accessibility and technology.She will also participate in MIT’s “Spatial Sound Lab” and plans to introduce her previous curatorial projects, including the exhibition “Rules?” at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT and the “Audio Game Center + CCBT” initiative at Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT).
Aoki will begin his residency from mid-October through late December, working under the theme "Exploring 'New Poetics' in Contemporary Expression Toward Creative Solidarity in Asia, and Building a Platform for Practice."Based in New York, he will conduct research through dialogues with cultural institutions and artists, strengthening networks for the future establishment of an art center.In addition to a presentation at NEW INC, Aoki will participate in related conferences and symposiums, focusing on building connections and sharing knowledge locally.Having curated and directed numerous exhibitions and programs bridging media arts and society, Aoki has been widely recognized both in Japan and internationally. Through this program, he is expected to explore possibilities for new projects based on global networks.
